Safety

ABS with EBD
Both brakes and steering are important for optimal performance, so we gave Lancer an available Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). EBD electronically adjusts braking force between front and rear axles to help reduce stopping distance, while ABS helps prevent individual wheels from locking up under hard braking. The combination helps the driver keep the car in control and steer out of trouble.

Passive Safety

The unexpected. You can’t predict it, but you can be prepared for it. Because surprises can come in any form, Lancer includes an array of active and passive safety features to protect all occupants from harm. Powerful antilock brakes and brakeforce distribution enable drivers to avoid hazards on the road, while the RISE body works to absorb collision damage and direct it away from the interior.

18-inch Tires with Alloy Wheels 4-Wheel Disc Brakes
Dual Airbag
Lancer is available with front dual airbag system to provide protection.
Advanced FRONT Airbags
Lancer uses advanced front airbags with driver’s seat position sensors and front passenger’s seat weight sensors. The information gathered from these systems is used to tailor the airbag deployment energy in the event of a collision.

RISE Body
RISE Body
Lancer safety-consciousness starts at the very beginning, with the construction of the RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body. This design protects occupants by employing extensive front and rear crumple zones to absorb impact energy before it can be transferred to the cabin. The cabin and doors, meanwhile, have been constructed with a highly rigid frame and reinforced beams to redirect energy and damage around and away from the occupants.

Seatbelts with Pre-tensioners and Force Limiters Active FRONT seat backs
Seatbelts with Pre-tensioners and Force Limiters
The driver’s and front passenger’s seatbelts are available with pre-tensioners that reel in to secure the occupant in the initial moments of a collision, and force limiters that gently release the occupant to reduce the risk of injury.
Active FRONT seat backs
Lancer front seats are designed to help reduce whiplash injuries resulting from certain rear-end collisions. The head rests, seat backs and seat frames are all optimized to help protect occupants in these collisions.

Suspension

4-Wheel Independent Suspension
Incorporating front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link system, Lancer makes sure work of unpredictable conditions. Responding exactly as needed, the independent suspension keeps all four wheels firmly on the ground for performance that’s as reliable as it is comfortable.

18-inch Tires with Alloy Wheels 4-Wheel Disc Brakes

Rigid Body and Subframes
A flat front subframe helps resist flex-inducing forces, which helps the wheels keep their precise relationship to the road for impressive grip. This also allows the suspension to do its job – keep bumps and potholes out of the passenger compartment. So Lancer great road holding doesn’t come at the expense of comfort.

Balance & Control

Power without stability will get you nowhere fast. Lancer has long been known for pushing the envelope in providing drivers with unparalleled driving control, so as exceptional as the Lancer is, its advanced handling and stability should come as no surprise. Incorporating the lessons of the racetrack and the rally course, Lancer fuses quick-responding suspension with flex-resisting body construction for high performance driving that’s sure and confident.

End-to-end Design Stability
End-to-end Design Stability
Every piece of Lancer body and frame has been designed with greater stability in mind. With a longer wheelbase and wider tracks than previous models, the new larger Lancer footprint means greater stability, especially when cornering.

18-inch Tyres with Alloy Wheels 4-Wheel Disc Brakes
18-inch Tyres with Alloy Wheels (2.0GT model only)
Lancer GT features a more muscular set of 18-inch tyres for improved grip, cornering and overall performance. A cool set of lightweight alloy wheels doesn’t hurt, either.
4-Wheel Disc Brakes
The Lancer is equipped with ventilated disc brakes to the front and solid disc brakes to the rear, providing controlled stopping power for dependable everyday performance. The brake booster further increases stopping power, especially for emergency stops.

CVT with INVECS-III CVT with INVECS-III
INVECS-III CVT
With CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), Lancer offers a new level of driving enjoyment: an automatic transmission that’s quiet, efficient, and eliminates the harshness and power lag of traditional gear changes. Furthermore, INVECS-III can monitor road and driving conditions to automatically determine timing, or observe driver behavior to create an intelligent profile that anticipates your every move.

Mitsubishi Evolution Generations

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, colloquially known as the Lancer Evo or Evo, is a car manufactured by Mitsubishi Motor. There have been ten official versions to date, and the designation of each model is most commonly a roman numeral. All of them share a two litre, turbocharged engine and four-wheel drive system. Evolution models prior to version VII were the homologation models for Mitsubishi’s efforts in the World Rally Championship. In order to follow these rules, the Evolution was based on the same unobody as the Lancer.

The Evolution was originally intended only for Japanese markets but demand on the ‘grey import’ market led the Evolution series to be offered through RalliArt dealer networks in the United Kingdom and in various European markets from around 1998. Mitsubishi decided to export the eighth generation Evolution to the United States in 2003 after witnessing the success Subaru had in that market with their Impreza WRX, a direct competitor in other global regions.
Japanese-spec cars were limited by a gentleman’s agreement to advertise no more than 276 hp (205 kW), a self imposed limit, 280 hp (210 kW) by the state, a mark already reached by Evolution IV. Therefore, each subsequent version has unofficially evolved above the advertised power figures, with the Japanese-spec Evolution IX reaching a real power output of around 321 PS (317 hp/236 kW). Various versions available in other markets, particularly the UK, have official power outputs up to 405 bhp (302 kW).
In 2008, the latest generation Lancer Evolution X was launched worldwide, and featured an all-new 291 hp (217 kW) inline four-cylinder turbocharged

Evolution I

The Evolution I was introduced in 1992 to compete in the World Rally Championship. It used the 2.0 L turbocharged DOHC engine and 4WD drivetrain from the original Galant VR-4 in a Lancer chassis, and was sold in GSR and RS models. The latter was a stripped-down club racing version that lacked power windows and seats, anti-lock brakes, a rear wiper, and had steel wheels to weigh approximately 155 lb (70 kg) less than the 2,730 lb (1,238 kg) GSR, while the former came with all of the conveniences of a typical street car. It came with Mitsubishi’s 4G63 engine producing 247 PS (244 hp/182 kW) at 6000 rpm and 228 ft·lbf (309 N·m) at 3000 rpm, The lancer has a 50 liter fuel capacity (11 uk gal) including the spare tank along with all wheel drive which would become a trademark on all Evolution models. 5,000 of the first generation Evolutions were sold between 1992 and 1993.

Evolution II

The successful Evolution I was changed in December 1993, and was produced until 1995. It consisted mainly of handling improvements, including minor wheelbase adjustments, larger swaybars, bodywork tweaks including a larger spoiler, and tires that were 10 mm (0.4 in) wider. The lancer has a 50 liter fuel capacity (11 uk gal). Power output was increased to 256 PS (252 hp/188 kW) from the same engine and torque was unchanged for both GSR and RS models.

Evolution III

August 1995 saw the arrival of the Evolution 3, which had several improvements over the previous models. New, more aggressive styling and a new nose molding improved the air supply to the radiator, intercooler and brakes. New side skirts and rear bumper moldings and a larger rear spoiler were added to reduce lift. Improved engine had higher compression ratio than before (8.5:1 to 8.8:1) and new turbocharger compressor, which gave power output of 270 bhp (201 kW) at 6250 rpm, 228 lb·ft (309 N·m) of torque at 3000 rpm.
